2. Client Needs and Challenges

In late December 2020, Tianjin Jinghai Middle School contacted us through a mutual referral. The school was planning to upgrade their auditorium seating, which is of course also suitable for a college lecture hall, but they had two main concerns:

Their budget was quite limited.
They needed chairs with writing tablets for students to take notes during classes and meetings.

At the beginning, the school didn’t even know how many chairs their hall could hold. On top of that, they wanted the seating arranged into left, middle, and right sections with two aisles, while the space had tiered steps of about 150mm.

They also asked: “What if in the future we want to switch to rear writing tablets?” This raised two key points:

If the steps were higher than 150mm, the drop between rows would make rear writing tablets uncomfortable to use.
Rear tablets would also add at least $2 per seat to the cost, which didn’t fit the current budget.

3. Our Solution

To address these challenges, we provided a tailored solution:

Seating Type: We recommended painted steel legs with a plastic shell, a classic economic model among different Auditorium Chair Product Types. It’s durable, low-maintenance, and ideal for schools on a budget.
Writing Tablets: Instead of costly rear tablets, we proposed front-mounted writing tablets. They allow students to take simple notes without driving up costs.
Seat Layout: Our design team redrew the hall’s CAD layout and seating rows, confirming the final capacity at 562 seats.
Aesthetic Choices: The school chose red fabric upholstery to bring energy into the hall and beech wood armrest panels for a natural, welcoming touch.
Extras: The client also purchased number plates to make seat management easier.

4. Project Outcome

Within 15 days, all 562 auditorium chairs were produced and installed. The final setup not only met the functional requirements but also balanced budget, durability, and aesthetics.

The school was very satisfied with the results and appreciated our guidance in choosing the right configuration for their college lecture hall. They also mentioned they’d be happy to work with us again for future hall upgrades.
